Eyelid Surgery in India

Eyelid Plastic Surgery or Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure to treat droopy eyelids. It includes removing excess fat, skin or muscle around the eye causing eyes to sag.

Why undergo eyelid surgery?

This kind of surgery is done when sagging or droopy eyelids keeps your eyes from completely opening or pull down your lower eyelids. Apart from that blepharoplasty is considered a good option when:

  •  You are going for anti-ageing treatment.
  •  You have excess skin on upper eyelids interfering your peripheral vision.
  •  Having excess skin on the lower eyelids, gives tiring looks
  •  Puffy bags under your eyes, cosmetically doesn’t suits.

Preparation for surgery

Before conducting this surgery, your surgeon might ask you to undergo some tests. The tests include:

  •  Physical Examination: Your doctor might take a physical examination to check with tear production and measuring parts of eyelids.
  •  Medical History: Your surgeon would ask questions regarding your past surgeries, current diseases and current use of medications, vitamins etc.
  •  Vision Examination: You might be asked to undergo vision examination and test your vision including your peripheral vision.

Blepharoplasty procedure

The procedures are performed on an outpatient basis. Generally, the surgeon injects a numbing agent into eyelids. In some cases, general anaesthesia is used.

The upper eyelids are addressed first. In this surgeon makes a small cut and remove excess skin, fat and muscles. These tissues are moved to other areas surrounding the eyes before closing the incision.

Mostly in the lower lid blepharoplasty, the fat is removed under eye bags and sometimes removal of small amount of skin. The incision is either on the inside of eyelid or outside underneath the lower eyelashes. Sometimes lower eyelid might be secured to the bony skeleton or tightened.

Recovery from blepharoplasty

Recovery from this surgery is relatively quick and short as compared to other types of surgeries. You might be asked to rest for a few days immediately following the surgery. Some pain and swelling might be experienced and medications might be prescribed to relieve from the symptoms. Recovery is quick, you might be asked to cover your eyes and keep the area clean. After a few days, your stitches would be removed by your surgeon.
